DataDome is best for customers prioritizing ease of use and information sharing.
– The Forrester Wave™: Bot Management, Q2 2022
We’re excited to share that DataDome was rated a “Strong Performer” in Forrester Research’s most recent report on bot management solutions, The Forrester Wave™: Bot Management, Q2 2022.
To us, the recognition is a reflection of our spectacular customer satisfaction and market performance over the last couple of years, and the brilliant teams that continue to define and grow DataDome every day.
Let’s dig into some of the report’s findings, and see what Forrester’s analysts have to say about DataDome’s capabilities.
Bot Management is Now a Necessary Tool
Until recently, Forrester considered bot management an “emerging technology”. The analyst firm previously published a Now Tech: Bot Management, Q4 2021 report, designed to help Forrester’s clients understand emerging technology landscapes and maturing marketplaces.
Here at DataDome, we applaud the fact that Forrester now considers the bot management technology category mature enough—and generating sufficient buyer interest—to warrant a full-scale Forrester WaveTM report.
Forrester states, “Bot management is a necessary tool to battle a wide range of bad bots. Bot management has evolved from an emerging market to a rapidly maturing offering expected to meet the needs of small organizations with a single application as well as large enterprises with hundreds of them.”
This corroborates our own experience: security and risk professionals are now fully aware of the significant threats and risk that bot traffic and online fraud represent, and they are ready to invest in efficient protection solutions.
The Forrester Wave™ report highlights the need for protection against a range of attacks; protecting web applications, mobile apps, and APIs; and leveraging machine learning. DataDome checks all the boxes.
DataDome in Forrester’s Research
The Forrester Wave™: Bot Management, Q2 2022 report evaluates the 15 “most significant” bot management providers, for the purpose of helping security and risk professionals select the right solution for their needs.
Each vendor is given a score between 1 (lowest) and 5 (highest) for 25 different criteria, and ranked in a graphical representation across an X/Y axis. The X axis represents the strength of the vendor’s current offering and the Y axis shows the strength of its strategy according to Forrester analysts.
The Forrester analysts gave DataDome the highest possible score (5) in 10 criteria, including:
- Bot Attack Response
- Performance (Current Offering)
- Feedback Loops
- Performance (Strategy)
Bot Attack Response
This criterion evaluates how well the product natively responds to attacks with a range of different methods, such as blocking, delaying, challenging, misdirecting, rate limiting, etc. The highest score is given to vendors who offer innovative mitigation or challenge options, and who allow users to add their own custom responses.
DataDome mitigates attacks in real time, using a wide range of native responses. Our AI algorithm automatically escalates from one response to another based on the attacking bot’s maturity level or evasion capacity, and users can fully customize responses from their dashboard.
Performance (Current Offering)
Within the “current offering” category, the Performance criterion evaluates how well the product preserves good performance for its customers. This includes low latency, high availability, and scalability, across all types of endpoints. To receive a high score, the vendor must offer performance SLAs.
DataDome ensures minimum latency through global elastic computing capabilities and 25 worldwide points of presence from multiple cloud providers, including AWS, Azure, GCP, OVH, Scaleway, Vultr, etc. Our detection engine needs less than 2 ms to make a decision: bot or human?

DataDome customers can see two real-time performance KPIs directly in their dashboard: the average observed latency and the average availability of each point of presence. Both KPIs are included in our contract performance SLAs. Our service status is also publicly available online at status.datadome.co.
Feedback Loops
For this criterion, the Forrester analysts rank feedback loops for both security teams and marketing/e-commerce teams. They look at how the product notifies security and marketing teams of attacks and responses, and what guidance and documentation the vendor makes available to help customers integrate the bot management system with their security and marketing tools.
For DataDome, here’s what they found:
UI and usability is where DataDome shines; the dashboard includes information about attack intent (e.g., scraping, credential stuffing, scalping), false positive and false negative rates, and performance latency metrics. DataDome is the only vendor to offer a mobile app with real-time attack notifications, attack details, and ability to configure protections. DataDome also offers a plethora of out-of-the-box integrations with security and marketing tools.

Performance (Strategy)
Finally, the Forrester analysts consider whether each vendor’s business performance lends credibility to the company’s strategy. They evaluate a range of key performance metrics, including bot management revenue growth rate, account retention, and customer satisfaction.
We’re extremely proud of our KPIs, which we believe earned us the highest score possible in this criterion:
- We doubled our bot management revenue in 2021 (and aim to do the same in 2022).
- Our average monthly customer retention rate is 99.3%.
- Our current Net Promoter Score is 73 (the average for Enterprise Software vendors is 44).
As the saying goes, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. 😉
These stellar results reflect our customers’ consistently high levels of satisfaction with our solution, ease of use, capabilities, and support. In the words of one customer:
We evaluated many products, including competitors with top reviews. In terms of cost, ease of use, reporting and protection, DataDome was the best by far.
