DataDome Releases Apigee X Integration

DataDome’s mission is to protect our customers against threats and fraud on any infrastructure. As we continue to expand our list of supported integrations, we are excited to announce we now have an integration for Google Apigee X!

Apigee X is an API gateway provided by Google and hosted in Google Cloud Platform. It can be hosted on any Google Cloud Platform Region.

What is an API gateway, and why should you use one?

API gateways help developers manage API calls, throttle traffic, control error handling, add caches, provide a developer portal for all APIs, etc. Essentially, an API gateway is a management tool sitting between a client (you) and a collection of backend services (APIs).

Enterprise APIs tend to be deployed by API gateways, which can handle common tasks across a system of API services, like user authentication and rate limiting. These gateways also simplify the process a customer might go through on your website:

1. Client makes a request that normally would have to be fulfilled by several different APIs.
2. API gateway receives the request and breaks it into multiple requests.
3. API gateway routes each request to the correct API.
4. API gateway receives responses from the API and forwards them to the client. 

For the last several years, API gateway usage has been increasing. The market was worth approximately $5 billion in 2022, and is expected to be worth around $47 billion by 2030.

Integrated Protection In Real Time

When we release a new integration, our goal is always to provide an easy setup for our customers. For Apigee X, we leverage the Apigee service callout to call the DataDome API and protect all requests received by Apigee X in real time.

If a request is coming from a bot, we will display the secure, privacy-compliant, and accessible DataDome CAPTCHA.

Setup Overview

You can find the full instructions for Apigee X integration in our technical integration documentation. Basically, there are two ways to add the DataDome module inside your Apigee proxy, depending on whether you have an existing service proxy:

1. Creating a new service proxy: Import our “ready-to-use” package.
2. Updating an existing service proxy: Manually add policies, JS files, and configuration settings.

Once you’ve completed integration, you are protected and you can see your traffic in real time inside the DataDome dashboard!
