Introducing the Timeboxing Feature

We have recently introduced the Hard Blocking Response to help you protect against even the most malicious human activity by fully blocking the traffic from accessing your endpoints.

Today, we are very happy to announce the introduction of a new and powerful addition to our existing Response suite—the timeboxing feature.

What the new timeboxing feature is and when to use it:

The timeboxing feature allows you to fine-tune the responses applied to the traffic reaching your endpoints based on the specified time. With a few simple settings, you will be able to control when to allow and when to block the traffic matching a chosen Custom or AI rule.

This gives you extra power to guarantee the best possible user experience for your human visitors by ensuring that no excessive activity can disturb your endpoints during your business hours.

For example, if you allow all of your known technical partners and good bot traffic only during the night time, you can make sure that during the day, the vast majority of your infrastructure resources are reserved for human visitors. Thanks to that, the timeboxing feature allows you to optimize your business processes and provide the best services possible to your customers.

How to use the timeboxing feature:

The timeboxing feature can be applied to any chosen good and commercial bot traffic (AI rules) and to all Custom Rules.

To apply the timeboxing settings to an AI rule, simply select it from the updated Response menu:

The Timeboxing Response can be also applied when creating or updating Custom Rules via the “Explore” page:

With the timeboxing settings component, you can fine-tune the period settings with great precision, by selecting particular hours of each day of the week. Simply select from the grid all periods in which you wish the traffic to be allowed. As the second step, you choose what response (CAPTCHA or Hard Block) should be applied to the remaining time and that’s it! If needed, you can also adjust the time zone to fully match your needs.
