Most enterprises that turn to DataDome realize they have a bot problem, but they can’t put their finger on the specifics. They don’t know how often they’re under attack, how bad the attacks are, and where the attacks are coming from.

That’s why we created a way to observe your automated traffic with our 30-day free trial. Our dashboard shows you the what, when, where, and how of all bot attacks coming your way. The latest updates to the DataDome bot attack notification center allow users to click the bell icon in the top right corner of the dashboard to see all bot attack notifications in one place.

What an attack notification looks like.

Each bot attack notification will show you (1) a summary of the attack, (2) when you were attacked, and (3) detailed request data if you want to really dig deep into a particular attack. The below article will explain why this is helpful to you.

Please note: if you are a paying customer, the bot attack notification center is available for you, too. In fact, because you’re a paying customer, DataDome will automatically block all bot attacks you’ll see in the notification center. So there’s no need to take any action from your side. You are protected, but the notification center is there in case you want to better understand the blocked bot attacks.

Convince your stakeholders.

You’ve experienced the consequences of bot attacks: slowdowns, unexpected traffic spikes, etc. But that alone is often not enough to convince stakeholders that you should allocate budget to a bot protection solution. The bot attack notification center will notify you of incoming bot attacks and enable you to show the extent and impact of the attacks, which might just be the extra ammunition you need to convince stakeholders.

Being able to whip out your phone during a meeting and showing the people around the table that you were hit with by a Layer 7 DDoS attack ten minutes ago might prove a particularly convincing argument. The bot attack notification center adds a sense of urgency to protecting your company with a bot mitigation solution.

Estimate the cost of bad bots.

All bot attack notifications will tell you how many requests the attack generated in total and how many requests it generated at its peak. If you saw poor web performance, downtime, or overage with your cloud provider during a particular attack, you can use this information to estimate how much this particular bot attack cost you.

Reveal the hidden problems you knew existed.

Bot attack notifications give you a graph of when a bot attack occurred and how many requests it generated over that timeframe. If you were struggling with other problems at that time, such as users complaining they couldn’t log into their accounts, it might be because of the bot attack.

The bot attack notification center quickly helps you identify related problems. While correlation does not mean causation, it’s a good starting point to investigate and eventually solve persistent problems with your IT infrastructure.

Discover when the attack peaked

Discover vulnerabilities in your system.

SecOps professionals will love this one: the DataDome bot attack notification center will give you a clear understanding of where bot traffic came from and what digital assets it hit. In the example below (which is a real example from one of DataDome’s customers), you can see that the attack was spread across different domains, mainly came from the US, and primarily targeted the client’s API.

Detailed info about every attack

The client is a paying customer, so they were automatically protected from this attack. But for a free trial user, this information is invaluable to understand what cybercriminals are targeting and where you need to strengthen your security layers. In turn, this will help you assess whether you actually need a specialized bot protection solution or not.

Getting started:

If you’re a DataDome customer or are running the free trial already, you can access the bot attack notification center in your dashboard anytime. If you don’t have a DataDome account yet, you can create one here and install the module that corresponds to your infrastructure (it won’t take long, we promise).

We believe that the DataDome bot attack notification center is a valuable addition to our software. If you’re a free trial user, it helps convince stakeholders, estimate the cost of bot attacks, find related IT problems, and discover vulnerabilities in your existing security infrastructure.

For our existing customers:

DataDome automatically protects you against all the bot attacks coming your way. But the bot attack notification center still has many use cases. For one, it’s always good to have more information about incoming threats, because you can use that information in ways that show your customers that you care for their security and privacy.

For example, if you’ve been targeted by a credential stuffing attack, you can alert any customers whose credentials were being tested. Even though DataDome kept their account safe on your site, they might appreciate your reaching out to let them know that their credentials have been compromised elsewhere.

This DataDome customer was targeted by a heavy credential stuffing attack. All 164,000+ attempts were automatically blocked in real time.

Internally, too, the information from the bot attack notification center is useful. You can use the details of a particular attack to better understand where you might want to strengthen other security layers. For example, if your backend is continuously under attack from sophisticated bot attacks, you want to make sure security is airtight there.

Whenever DataDome detects an attack, you can choose to receive an email notification or, if you’re a customer on our Corporate or Enterprise plans, you can also receive attack notifications on Slack. DataDome attack notification center helps you stay ahead of the curve.
